Everything They KnowBy KConnections![]() When children are young, it seems as if everything they know they learn from their parents. Of course, they learn from others along the way. You are their most influential role model when your children are little. They want to be like you, which is why it is necessary to work hard to teach your kids good values and morals. Keep in mind that your children do not just learn your good habits from you but also your bad. For this reason it is important to always be aware of your actions and your words. Do not teach your children to be intolerant or prejudice of others. If you teach them to treat others with respect and kindness, this is a lesson that will remain with them for life. Your children need to know that they should always treat others the way they want to be treated. As your child’s first teacher, you are their most important. Everything else they learn along the way will be affected by the things you have taught to them in the early years. Make all the lessons good one’s. Teach your children to be independent by building their confidence. Let them know that you are always there to help them and guide them in anyway you can, but that you also know that they are capable of achieving their goals. You inspire your children, however, they can also inspire you. When you are proud or learn a lesson from your children, let them know. This will teach them that we can all learn from one another. Sometimes the lessons will come from the parent and sometimes from the child. The important thing in life is that we are able to learn and to grow intellectually as well as emotionally together. Children like to imitate their parents. As they get older, they pretend they do not want to be very much like their parents. However, many children and teenagers do look up to their parents. Although older children might never admit to the fact, they often want to be just like their parents as well. You have the perfect opportunity to teach your children to always be motivated and to work hard. Work hard in your own life. Never sell yourself short so that you are able to teach your children to live their life the same way. Strive for success in your career. Be willing to go the extra step to achieve more in life. Your children will learn that being successful does not happen overnight. Everyone must work hard to get where they are and often has to work even harder to stay there. Your children also need to learn that success is important but it means nothing without love and family. Make time for your children even when you are busy or tired. They will remember these lessons. As they get older, they might spend less time with you. However, if you teach them the importance of family, it will not be forgotten. Perhaps when they are older and running from school to soccer practice and off with friends, they will take a few minutes to sit down to supper with you or stop to talk to you before heading off to bed at night. Children do learn a great deal from their parents. Sometimes what they learn is not positive. It is your job as a parent to always be the best person that you can be so that you can teach your children to do the same. Encourage them to be kind and hard working people. Someday they will thank for all that they know from watching your own example. |
